Nevada

The capital of Nevada is Carson City. It is a little city in the North, close to Lake Tahoe. But it is not the largest city in Nevada by a long shot. That honor goes to Las Vegas in the South, with Reno, also in the North, being second. But the most famous place by far is of course Las Vegas!Every year the Burning Man festival is held in the desert in Northern Nevada. It is a week-long, insane, celebration of technology. See the Black Rock City section for more info.

Nevada became a state during the Civil War because the North needed the Silver from mines such as Virgina City. The result of this is an ongoing rivalry between the North and the South which manifests in high school sporting events and music competitions, but is most obvious between the two universities. UNR (Reno) is in the North, and its colors are blue and white. UNLV (Las Vegas) in the South has the Runnin' Rebel as mascot and colors red and silver (grey).
